The Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired was set up by Mr. Xu Bailun, who had been a senior architect until becoming blind in 1971 due to a medical accident at the age of 41. After experiencing great suffering for 14 years from blindness, the spirit of humanity impelled his fortune¡¯s wheel. He began to devote himself to the cause of education for blind children since 1985. In 1988 the Golden Key Research Center of Education for Blind Children was established and then in 1989 the name of the center was renamed the Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired.
The Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired is a non-profit and non-governmental organization. All its funds are from society, and the funds are used only for the society and never for profits.
The Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired aims to develop the educational, rehabilitation, and cultural causes for the visually impaired (VI) in China, with its emphasis on the popularization of elementary education for VI children in the poorer areas of China. The Center responds to the calls of UNESCO, UNICEF and WHO; to China¡¯s development goals and programs for Chinese disabled people; to observe China¡¯s constitution, laws, rules of law and policies; to abide by social practice of morality; and to subject itself to the supervision from the related departments of the central government.
The scope of business of the Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired is as follows:
Searching for new roads, with Chinese characteristics, to popularize education for the visually impaired under the guidance of the world¡¯s advanced educational theories.
Raising funds and resources in material and manpower; through cooperation with the government departments at different levels, to implement the Golden Key project, and promote the development of basic education for the visually disabled in the underdeveloped regions in China.
Editing and publishing Ode to Joy and other publications on education, rehabilitation and culture.
Developing academic exchanges and other activities related to education, rehabilitation and culture. |
