Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired was found by Mr. Xu Bailun. He was originally a senior architect. When he was 41 years old, he lost his sight because of a medical accident. After experienced all sorts of pain 14 years later, impelled by a universal spirit of love, he set up ¡°Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired¡¯¡¯ in 1985.
Golden Key Center is a non-government and non-profit organization. All its funds are from society. It aims to develop and promote the educational, rehabilitation, and cultural causes for the visually impaired (VI) in China, with its emphasis on the popularization of elementary education for VI children in the poorer areas of China.
In 2006, sponsored by UNICEF and New Zealand Ambassador Foundation, Golden Key ¡¤ Training Series for Parents of VI Children was published officially by the Chinese Braille Press, which filled this domain which had been for ten years empty in our country. The series collection includes ¡°How Do Parents Treat VI Children¡±, ¡°How Parents Can Conduct Early Intervention on VI Children¡± and ¡°How Do Parents Participate in Education of School-aged VI Children¡±, 30 Yuan/set.
Sponsored by UNICEF, "Golden Key Visual Aid Characters Library" was published in January, 2007. The Characters Library is mainly suitable for low vision students. It is designed to facilitate their learning of Chinese characters, in such a way that their vision is protected. It is also a very good reference for the reform of elementary school education, reducing the learning burden of elementary students and reducing the teaching burden of classroom teachers. It includes 1,000 character cards, with one character on each card, arranged alphabetically according to Chinese Pinyin. The pinyin and font style, along with words and expressions containing the character, are on the front of each card; the character¡¯s components, radicals, structure and stroke order are indicated on the back. The cards are useful for beginners in studying the structure of Chinese characters and in strengthening overall ability to learn. The ¡°Characters Library¡± is contained in loose-leaf binding in four volumes; in addition, there is a ¡°Portable Characters Folder¡±, in which individual characters for study can be stored. The price of the ¡°Golden Key Visual Aid Characters Library¡± is RMB 300yuan/set.
Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired will also provide the teaching materials to teachers training of VI children¡¯s intergraded education implemented in different provinces and cities of China. The main teaching materials are ¡°Low Vision Teachers¡¯ Training Courses of Classroom Integration¡±, ¡°Teachers Training Courses of Blind Integrated Education¡± and ¡°Basic Assessment Manual of VI Students Classroom IE¡±. Five books in total and the price is RMB 42.8 Yuan.
Golden Key Center always believes that the knowledge and experiences collected in more than 20 years are wholly belonging to all VI children. Based on the spirit of ¡°coming from the society and using in the society¡±, Golden Key Center will freely donate material to broad VI educators. To make a request, educators may apply directly to Golden Key Research Center of Education for the Visually Impaired. The applicant only needs the mail expense. For details see the following table:
